Why Rawpine?

You might be wondering why we chose Rawpine as our domain.  It's pretty simple really ... Greenwood was not available and this was as close as we could get.  After all, pine is wood and when it's green, it's raw ... so there you go.

btw - if you wanted rawporn.com, you're at the wrong place, although some of the family photos go close.

and why a "dot HM" extension (rawpine.hm)?

The "HM" country code is for the Heard and McDonald Islands (HIMI),  an Australian Territory about 4,000 km south west of Australia and about 1,500 km north from Antarctica.  Mawson Peak, the highest point on Heard Island, is an active volcano, last erupting in 1992, still emitting smoke and steam and higher than Mt Kosciuszko.  Black volcanic rock contrasts with a mantle of snow and glacial ice.  So why register a domain there?  Well why not?

The Greenwood Name

"Greenwood" is a name of ancient Anglo-Saxon origin and comes from the Old English words meaning, not surprisingly, "green" and "wood".  No doubt the first Greenwood family to bear this name lived in, or near, a dense forest.  So "rawpine" fits nicely with the ancient roots.

The photos on this page are of Norfolk Pines through the convict barracks ruins and at sunset on Norfolk Island, January 2007.
